Perfecting Your Elevator Pitch
Look! If you had one shot or one opportunity...
To seize everything you ever wanted, In one moment...
Would you capture it? Or just let it slip?- Eminem - “Lose Yourself”
Marshall Mathers had no idea his lyrics are exactly how someone feels when they are about to go through the motions of an elevator pitch.
When creating your elevator pitch, consider these four foolproof tips.
Hi, My Name Is!
Identify yourself, and state your name, background, or credentials. A sample pitch could sound something like this…
“Hey there! I’m Delia Hobbs, Esq. Co-Founder of Onyx DNA Media - a media company helping creatives Get In, Stay In and Thrive in the entertainment industry.”
Make The Ask To Be Fulfilled Later
Be clear about what you want from this individual. Is it a networking opportunity, a job, or an introduction to someone in their network? Remember, closed mouths don’t get fed.
Include Your Call To Action
What do you want the person to do? Exchange contact information or review your website or social media? Clarity is key.
Seal The Deal
Obtain contact information to further discuss your ask and how you can be mutually beneficial to each other. Give a timetable of when you will be in touch, and make sure to connect within that time frame.
And Don’t Forget These Pro Tips!:
Practice your elevator pitch in the mirror a few times before doing it. This will help you gain confidence and stick to that 30-second timeframe.
Maintain confident eye contact and body language.
Believe in yourself!
Wishing you the best with your next elevator pitch!
